USSD is a world class organization of engineering professionals who advance the environmentally sustainable science of planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of dams, levees and associated civil engineering projects. USSD member engineers lead the nation, and work with partner organizations worldwide, to resolve the world’s most critical resource problem: access to clean water. USSD engineers lead in the production of clean, renewable hydroelectric power, dam and levee systems for flood protection, projects providing for agricultural irrigation and food production, projects providing recreational opportunities through dam reservoirs and water projects enabling water-borne transportation. USSD brings together professionals who share expertise in the technical, economic, financial, environmental and social aspects of dam and levee projects. The findings of these efforts are published in USSD white papers and conference proceedings, as USSD is the premier source for technical information about dams and levee systems to help educate the general public, the media, government and policy-makers and others in the engineering practice.
As the United States representative to the International Commission on Large Dams [ICOLD], USSD Members participate in the advancement of dam and levee technology by working with ICOLD technical committees and attending ICOLD meetings, which provide an opportunity to establish relationships and enhance technical skills with water professionals from nearly 100 countries.
USSD is your key to the world of dam and levee engineering.
