State Senate Passes Resolution Opposing Breach of Dams

The Washington state Senate voted Tuesday against proposals that would breach dams along the lower Snake River, saying they are vital for power, irrigation, navigation and the state’s clean-energy future.

In a message to the U.S. Congress, the president and other agencies that manage the 14 federal dams on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, the state Senate said that breaching dams could diminish hydroelectric power generation, irrigation capacity and harm flood risk management efforts and recreation.

Senate Joint Memorial 8004 passed by a vote of 26 to 23.
