Dam Rehabilitation Bill Introduced in the Senate

Our partcapitolners at ASCE reported on April 22nd that "Sen Jack Reed (D-RI) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) introduced bipartisan legislation Thursday that would provide funding assistance to rehabilitate, repair or remove nonfederal high hazard deficient dams. ASCE's 2013 Report Card for America's Infrastructure gave the nation's dams a grade of "D" and recommended that Congress establish a dam rehabilitation program. Similar legislation almost passed Congress in 2007. ASCE provided subject matter expertise during the development of the legislation, working closely with the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO). Earlier this week, ASCE sent a letter to Sen. Reed in support of the bill. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, which is set to markup the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) next week."
