Your Opportunity
Stantec is currently looking to add a Civil Engineer to support our Power and Dams practice in Sacramento, CA or Walnut Creek, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and interest in engineering design in subject areas including dams and hydraulic structures, spillways, river intake and discharge facilities, and hydroelectric power generation.

This position applies knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments among related fields, but with specific emphasis in hydraulics and water resources engineering related to large infrastructure projects. Applicant must be capable of working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and with clients and be willing to learn from peers and supervisors. Work responsibilities will include calculations and engineering analysis, preparation of technical reports, development of construction drawings and specifications, and support with project execution, marketing, and business development. Critical thinking and a desire to solve unique challenges is a must.

Your Key Responsibilities
Perform preliminary and detailed analysis for the design of hydraulic structures, pump stations, and other water-related infrastructure.
Prepare studies, design criteria, design reports, detailed engineering plans, and construction specifications.
Evaluate alternatives and resolve technical questions.
Provide engineering support for construction projects, which may include site inspections, shop inspections, monitoring, and other fieldwork.
Organize, draft and coordinate production of various reports to ensure technical consistency and inclusion of appropriate documentation.
Collaborate in teams involving civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines in office as well as virtual team environments.
Assist with business development activities including the preparation of proposals, budgets and scopes of work.
Serve as project engineer on small- to mid-sized projects and work on several projects concurrently.
Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guideline and policies.
Qualifications – External

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and excellent computer skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, report preparation, and the ability to work with engineering staff at all levels.
Experience in design of hydraulic structures or other large infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS HEC-ResSim and AutoCAD is a plus.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering calculations, analyses, and design documents.
Will be based out of Sacramento, CA or Walnut Creek, CA but requires willingness to work in a virtual team across offices and occasional project travel throughout Western US.
Desire to be a part of a large global engineering company, and to work with teams in other offices around the world.
Knowledge of relevant design codes and standards.

Education and Experience
Minimum of a B.S. in Civil Engineering with preference given to advanced degrees.
8 to 15 years of experience working on civil engineering projects.
Existing professional registration (P.E.) or ability to obtain within 6 months of starting work.
