International Symposium on the Mechanics of Internal Erosion for Dams and Levees

August 8-11, 2016 - Salt Lake City, Utah

The International Symposium on the Mechanics of Internal Erosion for Dams and Levees will consist of two days of technical presentations and discussion, followed by a full-day field trip to the site of the 1976 Teton Dam failure. The scope will focus on the mechanics of internal erosion and assessment methods for evaluating internal erosion hazards.

The Symposium format is designed to bring together experts from around the world to discuss, compare and contrast our understanding of the mechanics and assessment methods for internal erosion. In recent years, international collaborations have exposed considerable variation in the understanding of the mechanisms of internal erosion processes and the methods for which these processes are assessed in dam and levee engineering. This Symposium will be an opportunity to share and discuss differences in how internal erosion is assessed in different parts of the world.
