Committee on Concrete

The Committee on Concrete concentrates its activities on examining the properties and characteristics of materials, and on the technologies used in the design and construction of concrete dams.

Recent activities of the Committee have included preparation of an extensive annotated bibliography on Roller-Compacted Concrete Dams. This publication entitled Annotated Bibliography on Roller-Compacted Concrete Dams is available from the USSD office.

Current activities include the following:

  • Review of all technical articles related to the rehabilitation and repair of concrete dams.
  • Identification and collection of information related to new materials and technologies currently being used or under study or considered viable for use in the design, construction, rehabilitation and/or repair of concrete dams.
  • Ongoing studies related to Alkali-Aggregate Reactivity related to concrete dams.
  • Evaluation of concrete in dams focusing on assessment of life extension.

The Committee also promotes awareness of the importance of concrete for dams by participating in appropriate conferences and other activities that lead to a better understanding of concrete.

The Committee maintains liaison with other professional organizations such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), as well as various other USSD Committees.

The Committee supports the work of the ICOLD Committee on Concrete for Dams. Through this work, the Committee actively participates at the international level on studies, sharing experiences, and international publications related to the design and construction of concrete dams.

The Committee is the place to be if you are interested in concrete dams worldwide. If you would like to become a member of the Committee, are interested in concrete dams, or would like to offer comments or suggestions, you are invited to contact the Committee Chairperson.
