25th USSD Annual Meeting and Conference Proceedings

Foreword

The theme of the 25th USSD Conference was Technologies to Enhance Dam Safety and the Environment. The Conference technical program was organized by the USSD Committee on Materials for Embankment Dams, with assistance from the Committees on Construction and Rehabilitation; Dam Safety and Dam Security; Earthquakes; Environment; Hydraulics of Dams; and Public Awareness.

The Conference focused on a broad range of topics related to applications of current technologies for dams and dam safety, featuring feature technologies which mitigate adverse environmental effects, or enhance positive environmental effects associated with dams. The conference provided a forum for dam engineers, dam owners and operators, and environmental managers and interest groups to share and discuss new and innovative technologies in engineering, construction, monitoring and risk management. Proven technologies for embankment dams, concrete dams, spillways, hydraulic control systems, environmental remediation, dam security, hydraulics, hydrology, instrumentation and seismic and geotechnical issues were discussed.

A total of 62 papers are included in this Proceedings. Authors include specialists with broad experience from government agencies, utilities, academia, water districts, consulting firms and private industry.

The Conference Organizing Committee extends thanks and appreciation to the Host of the 25th Annual Meeting and Conference, the Bureau of Reclamation.

Special thanks are also extended to the Committee Members who selected the abstracts and reviewed the technical papers, and to the authors who prepared the papers included in this Proceedings.
